Nashville’s playoff exit was disappointing, but there are a lot more positives than negatives they can take from this season. Not many pundits had these Predators in the postseason before the season began; all they did was put together a 100-point campaign and give their opponents around the league fits.
They have the potential to have just as good (or better) results in 2010/11. Some important decisions must be made, though, this summer.
One of the biggest quandaries is on the blueline. Hamhuis, Grebeshkov (RFA), and Bouillon are all free agents, and the chances GM David Poile is able to keep all three is very slim. If I were Poile, Grebeshkov and Bouillon would be staying in Nashville. If Poile can only retain one of them, he may dip into free agency to find a defenseman.
Another need is in net. Ellis will likely depart for bigger and better things… so Poile must find a quality journeyman backup if he doesn’t feel prospect Mark Dekanich is ready for the big club.
As usual, I wouldn’t expect much from the Predators this summer. They already have most of their roster locked up for next year, and obviously won’t come close to spending to the cap.

Geoffrion tweets on signing
Blake Geoffrion has tweeted that he will sign a two-year contract with the Predators. Geoffrion said he will hold a signing ceremony on Tuesday at Granbery Elementary School in Brentwood.
The Predators confirmed Friday morning that nothing has been signed, and as of Friday afternoon both sides were still talking. It does not sound like the two sides are far off, hence Geoffrion's confidence about the signing ceremony next week.
Geoffrion, who grew up in Brentwood, was a second round pick (56th overall) by the Predators in 2006. He recently completed a superb collegiate career at Wisconsin and was named the Hobey Baker Award winner.

Draft Prospects - The upcoming draft is not being presented as a particularly deep draft, the Predators are currently slated to pick 18th. Reviewing the mock drafts, you see the following names…
Emerson Etem (Medicine Hat – WHL) – Speed to burn and a nose for the net has this player all over the map when it comes to mock drafts I have seen. His first season in juniors saw him pot 44 goals (seven in the playoffs) and chipped in another 31 assists. A mid-sized player at 6’ 195 lbs. the only hole in his game may be on the defensive side of the puck, but has tremendous offensive upside. Ranked #20 on Hockeyprospect.com
Mikael Granlund (HIFK – Finland) – Coming off a fine season with HIFK, ringing up 13 goals and 27 assists in 43 games, he is a bit undersized, but has big talent… this prospect may sneak into the top 10 but would be a no-brainer at 18. Ranked #12 on Hockeyprospect.com
Riley Sheahan (Notre Dame – CCHA) – At 6’2, 195 lbs, there is room to put on some weight. He’s a playmaking centerman that I have seen as high as 10 in some mock drafts. The Preds are deep in centers across the prospect pool, but David Poile seems to like Notre Dame kids. Ranked #22 on Hockeyprospect.com
Nick Bjugstad (Blain HS – Minnesota) – Ranked as the top high school player in the state, scouts are pretty high on this kid. He’s 6’3” and 190, but has the frame to put some more weight on. Big shot, good hands and great maneuverability makes him a real possibility at the 18 spot… unless he goes earlier. Ranked #10 on Hockeyprospect.com

Back in February while the hockey world was focused on the Winter Olympiad, GM David Poile was able to lock up Pekka Rinne to a two-year, $6.8 million extension. By doing so, the organization made it clear that it is Rinne’s crease for the present and future. Once he returned from vacationing in his homeland Finland, Rinne was a different goalie between the pipes than Pred Nation had seen in the first three-fourths of the season.
‘Peks’ put the Predators on his back and virtually carried them to their fourth postseason bid in the last five years. He compiled a 1.96 goals against in the final few weeks, along with a 12-4-1 record. And while he didn’t have the best playoff debut, ‘Peks’ did all he could against an uber-talented Blackhawks club.
Looking ahead to next season and beyond, you can’t help but think he’s only going to get better. In his first two seasons in the league, he was part of a committee with Dan Ellis for the first half of the season. As we’ve seen down the stretch in his young career, Rinne is capable of being lights-out in net as he settles into a groove of playing every other day.
Assuming Rinne is the clear-cut number one for the bulk of next season, there’s no reason to believe he can’t become a candidate for the Vezina Trophy. Why, you ask? Well ‘Peks’ has 14 shutouts in his first two seasons (which is pretty darn good). Also, like I previously alluded to, he plays much better – and is more consistent – when in the routine of playing every game.
With a team that plays solid team defense in front of him, Rinne should be able to creep into Vezina contention in the next couple years.

The odd-man out of this equation is Dan Ellis. In all likelihood, he will part ways with Nashville as an unrestricted free agent this summer. There is a small chance he could come back, but why bother when Rinne is ‘the man’?
Ellis, who was signed three years back to compete with Rinne as a backup to then-starter Chris Mason, has performed beyond expectations here in Music City. Ellis had only played in one NHL game (with Dallas) prior to signing on with the Preds.
In his first year in Nashville, Ellis stole the starter’s job from Mason with an excellent season. He racked up 23 wins and 6 shutouts as the ‘1B-goalie’, leading the team to a playoff berth against Detroit – in which he performed admirably.
While he didn’t quite take the next step after the 2007/08 campaign, Ellis was a favorite among fans on and off the ice – especially on Twitter! His presence will ‘absolutely’ be missed in Nashville.

So if Rinne is the starter and Ellis takes off for bigger and better things, who slides into the backup role? Good question… one that Poile probably doesn’t even know an answer to yet! The popular belief is that prospect Mark Dekanich will fill that role. Why not? He has put together back-to-back quality campaigns in Milwaukee, and seems to be ready to make the NHL leap.
Knowing Poile, though, he’ll likely bring in a journeyman backup in training camp to push Dekanich. Guys like Yann Danis, Andrew Raycroft, or Alex Auld would make sense if Poile believes Dekanich isn’t ready. Or maybe there’s a Dan Ellis-type free agent sitting there in August – ready to pounce on an opportunity – that would entice Poile.
Whatever the case, the backup job is a bit of a question mark heading into the off-season.

Dekanich is just one of a talented group of goaltending prospects in the Predators’ system. One of the reasons why I’d like to see him up with the big club next year is so Chet Pickard can get more playing time at the AHL level. Pickard was the 17th overall pick in the 2008 draft, and has a ton of potential. He struggled in his first pro season (14-16-3, 2.85 GAA), though, and will need to show progress next year.
Others in the fold are Jeremy Smith (led the Cincinnati Cyclones to ECHL title), Anders Lindback (Swedish Elite League standout), and Atte Engren (led TPS Turku of SM-Liiga to league title). While all three possess solid potential and have had success early on in their young careers, none of them have an NHL-ceiling like Pickard’s.
Poile and his staff have done a fabulous job of drafting goaltenders over the last few years; Rinne, Lindback, and Engren were all selected in the seventh round or later.

Geoffrion wins another award 
Brentwood resident and Predators prospect Blake Geoffrion was named USA Hockey’s College Player of the Year on Thursday.
Geoffrion was instrumental in leading the University of Wisconsin to the NCAA title game this year and also picked up the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the highest collegiate player of the year honor.
Geoffrion was fourth in points for Wisconsin, posting 28 goals and 22 assists. He also had seven goals in eight postseason games.
The Predators selected Geoffrion in the second round (56th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Perhaps most important is Weber’s contract situation.
There is one season remaining on his current deal. While he will be a restricted free agent next summer, he no doubt will be such a coveted commodity — if he gets to that point — that some team (Detroit, Toronto, the New York Rangers?) will make him an offer the Predators won’t have the wherewithal to match.
Putting the “C” on Weber now would be a clear expression of the franchise’s commitment to him and, therefore, a critical first step in negotiations to strike a new deal before the old one expires.

Na akkor nézzünk szét hátul:
Weber jövő nyáron RFA lesz és 7 milla köré várják, úhhogy kell a hely rendesen, valszeg a C-t is megkapja akkortájt.
Hacsak persze Mac-ék le nem nyúlják addig...
Úgy néz ki, hogy Grebes-t 4-körül íratjuk alá, tőle várjuk a PP-t jövőre(is).
Hami gondolom kuka, Boui viszont egészen valószínű, hogy kap még egy évet.
És akkor a fiatalok:

Úgy néz ki, Boyd aláíratása egyre valószínűtlenebbnek tűnik, Spaling és O'Reilly is kontrakttal bír, Trotz meg odavan Spalingért, úgyhogy ez.
Persze még lehet, csak nem valószínű. Shrek a fejébe vette, hogy egy kozmikus PK-plaját farag Spalingből, hát nemtom, remélem bejön neki....
O'Reilly más tészta, változatlanul megy az évődés, hogy a farmba sok, föl meg nem elég, meglátjuk.
De ez fura, meg voltam róla győződve, hogy akit hoztunk a dídlájnkor, az marad is, mindegy.

The Predators signed defenseman Roman Josi on Friday to a three-year entry-level contract. Josi, 19, was a second round pick (38th overall) by the Predators in 2008. The Bern, Switzerland native was a key factor last season for SC Bern, which won the regular season and playoff titles. Josi (6-1, 198) led all defensemen with four goals in the playoffs. In the regular season, he played in only 26 of 50 games because of injuries.
Josi was picked to participate on the Swiss team in the 2010 Olympics but had to skip it because of injury.

Atte Engren, a seventh round pick by the Predators in the 2007 Entry Draft, has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the team.
The 22-year-old Finnish goaltender helped lead TPS Turku to the 2010 Finnish Elite League (SM-Liiga) title. Engren (6-1, 184) was 7-1 in the playoffs this year and was fifth in save percentage (.936). During the regular season, he was fourth in the Finnish League in save percentage (.921) in 35 games.

 Hány millát kérhet tőlünk az emberünk, gondolom Plekanec vagy Fedotenko nem esély.. de ha nem túl vének, Washingtonból

de ez akkor is kevés ...
Philstrom meg nem is mondtam hogy olyan jó lett volna, de akár mostanra lehetne  fejlődött ahogy láttam még akkor néha

Neem, az UFA-ink közül egyelőre senkiről nincs konkrét hír, az csak az én elméletem volt.
Pihlsiről sem hallottam mostanság, faszán tolta a vébén, oszt kábé ennyi, nem emlékszem már hány évre írt írt alé finnbe.

Lindback, 22 (5/3/88), spent his first full season as a starting netminder for Timra of the Swedish Elite League (Elitserian) in 2009-10. The 6-6, 205-pounder ranked fifth in the Elitserian in save percentage (.913) and sixth in goals-against average (2.46), while tying for fourth in the league in shutouts (4) last season.

Preds 2009 First Round pick Ryan Ellis recorded five assists in four games at the 2010 Memorial Cup Tournament to lead Windsor to it's second consecutive Memorial Cup Championship with a perfect 4-0 record in this year's tournament. Ellis's five points ranked second among all defensemen in the tournament.

Azért kérdeztem mert a stat szerint Hamhuis többet ütközött jóval hat mecs alatt mint ugyaannyi Volchenkov, vagy hét meccsen Michalek. De ha ezek nem értek fel utóbbiakéval akkor nem értem Murray miért inkább Dant akata/ja Zbynek helyett.

Húha, ez húzós. Nekem speciel Zbynek jobban kéne, de érdekes kérdés. Nálunk kicsit keveslem a fizikai védekezést, talán ezért.
Hami egészen más, gyönge, gyors és néha még veszélyes is a kapura, de nagyon hullámzó a teljesítménye. Meg hiába ütközik,
elég súlytalan a srác. Szóval akkor oké, eldőlt: Zbynek!!
